Technical studies for offshore energy potential
The project RP-C21-i07.01 – Technical studies for offshore energy potential – is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) of Portugal through the component C21-REPOWERED of the Climate Transition dimension, which aims to:
Support Portugal’s ambitions in terms of energy independence and ecological transition, in the context of new geopolitical and energy market situations.
The component contributes to respond to the specific recommendations addressed to Portugal to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and to focus investment on the energy transition and towards a low-carbon economy and on the efficient and clean production and use of energy.

Aims of the project
Led by the SEISLAB team of IPMA, the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere, the OWF Studies project has the main objectives:
>> Support the auctions for the OWF areas listed in the National Maritime Spatial Planning Situation Plan (PSOEM) with expertise data and analysis.
>> Define the Terms of Reference to be followed in geophysical and geotechnical surveys for characterization of the OWF PAER areas.
>> Design and execute high-resolution geophysical and geotechnical studies for the OWF implementation areas, covering at least 2000 km².
>> Promote the sustainability of the implementation process, developing studies on the definition of the environmental baselines and on the possible existence of antropogenic features and archeological sites on the areas.
